Spanish gas station owners demand urgent fuel tax relief

The Spanish Confederation of Service Station Entrepreneurs (CEEES) has formally requested that the Ministry of Economy implement urgent fiscal relief measures to combat rising fuel costs. The industry group expressed deep concern regarding the escalation of international petroleum prices, noting that while Brent crude is rising, the pressure on refined products like gasoline and diesel is particularly intense.

CEEES is calling for the reinstatement of two specific measures: the 10% reduced VAT on automotive fuels and a temporary reduction in the Special Tax on Hydrocarbons (IEH). The organization warns that without these interventions, fuel prices are expected to rise sharply starting October 1, when current relief measures expire.

Estimates suggest that gasoline could increase by approximately 0.06 euros per liter, while diesel could see a much more significant rise of roughly 0.24 euros per liter. The industry argues that the current situation is unsustainable for service stations—most of which are SMEs or self-employed—and threatens the purchasing power of citizens and national economic competitiveness.
