Spanish Government addresses military misconduct and flood reconstruction

Spanish Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has addressed allegations of military aggression against immigrants in Ceuta. Following reports of physical assaults by military personnel during migration control operations, Torres confirmed that complaints have been filed and the Ministry of Defense has escalated the matter to judicial authorities. While acknowledging the extreme operational pressure in Ceuta, where over 20,000 people remained, Torres emphasized a policy of zero tolerance for legal violations, stating that individuals responsible for abuses must face the full weight of the law.

Separately, the Spanish government reported that over 10 billion euros have been allocated for the reconstruction of territories affected by the DANA weather phenomenon. This funding includes 4.66 billion euros from the Insurance Compensation Consortium and 1.74 billion euros transferred to 78 municipalities for reconstruction efforts. The measures aim to restore economic activity and rebuild essential infrastructure, including transport, water supply, agriculture, and housing.
