Spanish Government challenges four Valencian laws in Constitutional Court
The Spanish Government has challenged four laws passed by the coalition government of the People's Party (PP) and Vox in the Valencian Community before the Constitutional Court, with a fifth law currently under review. These legal challenges target specific articles within regional legislation rather than entire laws.
The contested areas include LGTBI rights, academic freedom for teachers, democratic memory, and coastal urban planning. In the case of the Law of Concord, the Constitutional Court has already suspended several provisions, though it upheld an article equating victims of the Second Republic and terrorism with those protected under state law.
Additionally, the court suspended articles of the 2025 Companion Law that affected the Valencian Trans Law, specifically those regarding conversion therapies and healthcare access for the LGTBI community. The regional government's legislative agenda, shaped by the PP-Vox pact, is being scrutinized by the central government to prevent the erosion of established rights.
