Spanish Government considers Basque competency transfers before November 29 elections
The Spanish central government has indicated it may not rule out transferring certain competencies to the Basque Country before the general elections on November 29. This follows pressure from the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV).
Lehendakari Imanol Pradales has urged Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to complete a 'sprint final' to finalize transfers that were technically advanced prior to the announcement of the early elections. Key issues under negotiation include the transfer of the Social Security economic regime and the management of the ports of Bilbao and Pasaia.
While the central government acknowledges that completing these steps before the election is 'complicated,' it has not closed the door to potential movements. Agreements could be reached through the Joint Transfer Commission and subsequently approved by the Council of Ministers via royal decree.
