Ceuta crisis: Judge requests declassification of 19 CNI messages

Judge María Tardón of the Audiencia Nacional has requested the declassification of 19 messages from the National Intelligence Centre (CNI) regarding the border crisis in Ceuta. During testimony, Gonzalo Sanz, the former chief of staff to the previous government delegate, confirmed the existence of these messages. One specific communication, dated July 29, reportedly contained a warning from the intelligence service about tens of thousands of people organizing via social media to storm Ceuta from Morocco.

A dispute has emerged between the central government in Moncloa and the local government of Ceuta regarding the responsiveness of authorities. Moncloa asserts that it attended to nine calls from Ceuta President Juan Vivas between July 27 and July 30. Conversely, the Ceuta government claims that many calls went unanswered and that the gravity of the situation in Morocco was not sufficiently addressed. To support their version, Ceuta officials are preparing to provide a detailed chronology of all communications, including documented missed calls, to the judicial investigation.
