Spanish government funds tech centers and UPC research equipment

The regional government of Castilla‑La Mancha announced a €1.3 million grant, co‑financed by the European Regional Development Fund, for four technology centres—ASIDCAT, ASINTEC, ITECAM and NOTIO. The funding supports applied research projects, innovation initiatives, non‑financial R&D assistance and a training programme for the productive sector, according to director Rosario Serrano.

Separately, Spain’s State Research Agency (AEI) approved €749,992 for four projects at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). The money covers 40 % of the cost of new scientific‑technical equipment, with the university providing the remaining funds. The allocations include a high‑resolution ion‑beam microscope for the Multiscale Science and Engineering Centre and €160,000 to create the university’s first institutional artificial‑intelligence infrastructure, enhancing capabilities in AI, nanoscience, hydrogen research and supercomputing.
