Spanish government increases direct union subsidies to 32 million euros

Under the administration of Pedro Sánchez, direct government subsidies to major Spanish labor unions UGT and CCOO have increased significantly. Annual direct aid has risen from 8.8 million euros to 32 million euros, representing an increase of nearly 264 percent.

Between 2018 and 2025, UGT, CCOO, and their affiliated organizations received more than 569 million euros in total assistance. This financial growth occurs alongside a decline in union membership, which stands at 12.5 percent of salaried workers according to OECD data. Additionally, the unions benefit from the free use of 58 state-owned properties, with an estimated market value exceeding 200 million euros.
