Spanish Government provides free WiFi for migrant camps in Ceuta

The Spanish Government has urgently contracted Telefónica to install three free WiFi access points for migrant camps in Ceuta. This measure, implemented by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, follows an extraordinary increase in communication demand due to mass arrivals since late July.

The initiative includes a mobile base station near the Temporary Stay Center for Immigrants (CETI), providing coverage to nearby areas such as Trampolín beach and Benítez. These actions are part of an emergency response to manage migratory pressure and provide basic services, including accommodation for approximately one thousand people in new temporary camps at the port.

The deployment has faced criticism from the organization Hazte Oír, which announced plans to file a complaint with the Ceuta Area Prosecutor's Office. The group is questioning the use of public funds to finance and install the internet connection in the CETI surroundings.
