Spanish Government to create 700 new judicial and fiscal positions
The Spanish Government has approved the urgent processing of two royal decrees to create 700 new judicial and fiscal positions by 2027. This initiative aims to strengthen the national justice system by adding 500 judge positions, representing a 7.8% increase nationwide, and 200 prosecutor positions, a 6.6% increase for the Public Prosecutor's Office.
In Asturias, the expansion includes eight new judicial posts: two for the Provincial Courts of Oviedo and Gijón, five for the Courts of First Instance in Oviedo, Gijón, and Mieres, and one territorial assignment position. Additionally, Asturias will receive three new prosecutor positions, increasing its total staff from 56 to 59.
Vigo will also see an increase in judicial resources with three new judges assigned to the Social and Civil sections. The appointment of a freed presidency for the Court of First Instance in Vigo is expected to elevate its judicial category, a model previously reserved for major cities like Madrid and Barcelona. This role will focus on coordination and organizational functions rather than direct jurisdictional work.
