Spanish Guardia Civil Seizes Nearly 5 Tons of Hashish in Strait of Gibraltar Operation

Spanish maritime and aerial units intercepted a semi‑rigid boat attempting to cross the Strait of Gibraltar. The Guardia Civil recovered 32 bundles containing about 1,200 kg of hashish, while cooperating Moroccan gendarmes seized an additional 89 bundles (approximately 3,577 kg). The joint effort prevented the shipment of roughly 4,777 kg of hashish from reaching its destination.

In a related incident off Huelva, narcotraffickers tried to unload 1,120 kg of hashish in the Punta Umbría estuary. When the Guardia Civil moved to block the transfer, the traffickers opened fire with long‑range weapons. No agents were injured; 56 bundles of hashish were seized and one suspect was arrested. The operation involved multiple police specialties and highlighted the escalating violence of drug networks in southern Spain.
