Spanish health services expand WhatsApp medical appointments
Health services in various Spanish regions are expanding digital appointment management via WhatsApp to improve accessibility and efficiency in primary care.
In Aragon, the TuCitaSalud system has been extended to 15 health centers in the Barbastro sector, benefiting over 122,700 users. The tool allows patients to confirm, cancel, or reschedule appointments for family medicine, nursing, and pediatrics. Following a successful pilot in Monzón Urbano, the system aims to optimize professional schedules and reduce patient no-shows.
In Extremadura, the Servicio Extremeño de Salud (SES) has implemented WhatsApp-based appointment management across the entire Llerena-Zafra Health Area. This digital transformation initiative allows citizens to request, consult, and cancel primary care appointments via a dedicated number, eliminating the need for phone calls or in-person visits. The expansion follows successful testing in municipalities such as Jaraíz de la Vera and Talavera la Real.
