Spanish hospitals advance rehabilitation through sports and exoskeleton technology

Healthcare facilities in Spain are implementing new methods and technologies to enhance patient rehabilitation. The Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos held its third Sports Fair, showcasing various adaptive disciplines such as fencing, table tennis, rugby, and archery. The event aims to promote sports as a therapeutic tool to improve the physical and psychological well-being, autonomy, and social inclusion of patients with spinal cord injuries.

In Cáceres, the Hospital San Pedro de Alcántara has introduced an exoskeleton designed for the rehabilitation of neurological patients. The device assists in controlled gait training, balance, and mobility. This implementation has led to the hiring of new physiotherapy staff and specialized training for medical professionals. The equipment is currently operating at San Pedro de Alcántara and is slated to move to a future multidisciplinary ALS unit once construction is complete.
