Spanish hospitals receive certifications for patient-centered care

Spanish hospitals are receiving high-level certifications for their commitment to patient-centered care and humanization.

The Hospital Universitario Infanta Leonor in Madrid has earned the international ‘Patients First’ certification. This recognition, supported by the Sociedad Española de Calidad Asistencial (SECA) and the Instituto para la Experiencia del Paciente (IEXP), marks it as the second public hospital in Madrid and the third in Spain to achieve this status. The certification validates a systematic process for measuring patient experience, involving patients directly in the evaluation to ensure healthcare meets their actual needs and expectations.

In Córdoba, the Ostomy Clinic at the Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía has achieved the ‘excellent’ level in the Humanization Good Practices certification, promoted by Project HU-CI and AENOR. This distinction recognizes the clinic's efforts to prioritize the well-being, privacy, and autonomy of ostomy patients and their families. Key initiatives include the creation of specialized patient guides, the installation of dedicated facilities to improve privacy and comfort, and the development of community-building projects like ‘The Mural of Life’.
