Spanish institutions celebrate Day of Women Writers

Various institutions in Spain have held events to observe the Day of Women Writers, focusing on reclaiming the literary and intellectual contributions of women.

The University of Huelva (UHU) celebrated the tenth edition of the event under the theme ‘Friends as a form of freedom’. The initiative, organized by the University Library, featured public readings to recover texts from female intellectuals whose work was historically sidelined. The event coincided with the centenary of the Lyceum Club Femenino, a Madrid-based space founded in 1926 for women in arts and thought. The ceremony included a speech by Clara Campoamor regarding women's rights.

In Guadalajara, the City Council hosted its first institutional celebration of the day under the slogan ‘The word that remains’. The event included public readings of universal and contemporary authors, as well as honors for local writers such as Aurora Egido, Clara Sánchez, Gracia Iglesias, Laura Lara, and María Lara. The Mayor of Guadalajara, Ana Guarinos, emphasized the importance of making visible the women who enriched cultural heritage despite historical obstacles.
