Spanish institutions commemorate 800th anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi

Various religious and educational institutions in Spain are holding special events to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the passing of Saint Francis of Assisi.

In the regions of Castellón and Vila-real, the parishes of San Francisco and Sant Francesc have launched a joint program under the motto ‘San Francisco Vive’. The celebrations include penitential services, novenas, film screenings, and processions aimed at promoting peace, fraternity, and environmental care. The activities, which began in late September, include a pilgrimage to the convent in Vila-real and daily novenas in Castellón.

In Almería, the Colegio San Francisco is hosting a ‘Franciscan Week’ from September 28 to October 3. The school's program features educational activities such as film sessions, the creation of a collective mural, and Franciscan training. The week will conclude on October 3 with an extraordinary procession starting from the San Agustín parish, followed by a commemorative Eucharist and a community festival.
