Interior Minister Marlaska skips Senate hearing on Ceuta crisis

Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska failed to appear before the Senate's Interior Commission on Wednesday, sparking a political confrontation regarding the migration crisis in Ceuta. The People's Party (PP), which holds an absolute majority in the Senate, accused the minister of a “deliberate, conscious and intentional” act of disobedience and announced intentions to pursue legal and political actions.

The government argued that the absence was intended to avoid duplication, as ministers are scheduled to testify before the Congress of Deputies later in August. However, Senate President Pedro Rollán warned that cabinet ministers would be in “rebellion” if they continue to refuse to testify about the border events in Ceuta, where significant fatalities were reported.

In addition to the parliamentary dispute, criticism has been directed at the absence of Health and Migration ministers from Ceuta during the crisis. Local health officials and medical professionals have expressed frustration over the perceived lack of institutional support and the impact on the city's sanitary services.
