Spanish islands roll out youth volunteering programmes

The island council of Menorca has launched the eighth edition of "Un Estiu per Créixer", a summer programme for 14‑ to 17‑year‑olds that combines volunteering with service‑learning. Supported by INJOVE and most municipal councils, the 2025 edition will involve 302 participants working 15 hours a week in libraries, museums, Red Cross branches and other community entities, and requires each to design a local improvement project.

In the Canary Islands, the IES Garachico Alcalde Lorenzo school won first prize in the "Laboratorio de Proyectos" with its "Isla Baja Joven" initiative, which diagnoses the needs of young people in Garachico, Buenavista and Los Silos. Both programmes aim to foster social commitment, personal development and community involvement among island youth.
