Spanish judge links Mazón defense to evidence against Salomé Pradas

Judge Nuria Ruiz Tobarra has issued a ruling regarding the investigation into the DANA flood emergency management. The judge stated that the exculpatory defense presented by former President Carlos Mazón actually strengthens the criminal evidence against former counselor Salomé Pradas.

Mazón’s defense argued that any delays should only be examined from 8:00 PM onwards and claimed that the ES Alert sent at 8:11 PM would not have saved lives because it did not instruct citizens to move to higher floors. However, the magistrate noted that this argument implies the message was ineffective regardless of whether it was sent, and further asserted that the delay in sending the alert reflects a failure to follow the established structure and competencies of Cecopi.

Salomé Pradas, who was legally in charge of the emergency and presided over Cecopi, remains under investigation alongside Emilio Argüeso. The judge criticized the delay in the ES Alert as being caused by “absurd legal and linguistic disquisitions” and noted the incomprehensible failure to use other warning methods prior to the alert.
