Spanish judges council urged to address gender‑violence court overload and political intimidation
At the XXIV Jornadas of Presidents of Provincial Courts in Ávila, 42 provincial court leaders, chaired by Supreme Court president and CGPJ head Isabel Perelló, called for an urgent review of the overload affecting the sections that handle violence against women. They warned that the new 2025 efficiency law has increased caseloads and asked for sufficient staff, technical support for anti‑violence devices, and the creation of specialized sections for child and adolescent violence.
A separate commentary accused Perelló and the CGPJ of intimidating judges, asserting that the council is overstepping its constitutional limits by intervening in jurisdictional matters. The piece warned that such actions could undermine judicial independence and called for reforms to the council’s composition and powers.
