Spanish judicial institutions targeted in leaked political strategy chats
Leaked WhatsApp conversations involving journalist Leire Díez, businessman Javier Pérez Dolset, and former judge Luis José Sáenz de Tejada have revealed discussions regarding a coordinated strategy to target high-level Spanish judicial institutions. The chats include references to establishing a “plan,” building a “narrative,” and utilizing “ammunition” to attack members of the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, and the Prosecutor's Office.
Reports suggest these efforts were aimed at destabilizing judicial investigations involving political figures. Additionally, allegations have surfaced regarding attempts to influence or intimidate Judge Beatriz Biedma, who is overseeing a case involving the brother of the President of the Government. In response to these developments, the political party Vox has filed a lawsuit against Díez, Sáenz de Tejada, and lawyer Jacobo Teijelo.
Further criticism has been directed at Cándido Conde-Pumpido, President of the Constitutional Court, with claims that the court's progressive majority acts to facilitate the government's legislative and legal interests, such as the amnesty law, by overturning or obstructing judicial rulings.
