Spanish judiciary investigates alleged political interference and criminal networks
A judicial investigation led by Judge Santiago Pedraz is examining allegations of political interference and criminal networks within Spain. Manuel Llamas, the Deputy Operational Director of the Guardia Civil, informed the court that calls from Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska and Director General Mercedes González were behind the opening of an internal investigation into UCO agents. This investigation targeted officers who were looking into cases involving the brother of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
The probe, often referred to in relation to alleged “cloaca” (sewer) networks, is also investigating connections between criminal elements and political figures. Judge Pedraz has summoned former judge Luis José Sáenz de Tejada to appear before the Audiencia Nacional on October 28, charging him with crimes including criminal organization, coercion, and attacks on moral integrity.
Additionally, the investigation is looking into claims that criminal groups were contacted to influence or “eliminate” Judge Beatriz Biedma, who was instructing the case against David Sánchez. Reports from the UCO suggest potential links between these illicit activities and high-ranking members of the PSOE party.
