Spanish local groups demand climate adaptations for schools

Local political groups in the Canary Islands are calling for improved infrastructure to combat extreme weather in educational settings. In San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Socialist spokesperson Concepción Narváez has demanded a plan to protect public schools from heat and calima. She criticized the local government for allocating 1.5 million euros to climatize municipal offices while failing to provide funds for nursery schools serving children aged zero to three. Narváez proposed auditing electrical installations and building orientations before purchasing new equipment.

In Breña Alta, the PSOE municipal group has proposed a motion to install roofs over the sports courts at the Miranda and Manuel Galván de Las Casas schools. The group argues that students currently face sun, high temperatures, and rain during physical education classes. They are calling for a technical and economic feasibility study to ensure these facilities can be used safely and functionally throughout the year for both students and the wider community.
