Spanish medical unions announce strikes and mobilizations
Spanish medical unions, including the Confederación Española de Sindicatos Médicos (CESM), the Sindicato Médico Andaluz (SMA), and the Sindicato Médico de Euskadi (SME), have announced a series of mobilizations and strikes. The actions aim to pressure political parties to address professional demands such as working hours, professional classification, and retirement conditions ahead of the November 29 elections.
In Andalusia, the SMA has called for an indefinite strike starting November 13, 2026, following a breakdown in negotiations with the regional government. The union plans three weeks of continuous 24-hour stoppages until December 4, citing a lack of progress in implementing a previous agreement signed in July. The Junta de Andalucía has contested the strike, stating that a signed commitment is already in place and questioning the timing of the mobilization during the electoral pre-campaign.
A major unified demonstration is scheduled for November 21 in Madrid, moving from the Ministry of Health to the Congress of Deputies.
