Spanish medical unions suspend strike and report violence in health centers

Medical unions in Spain have announced a temporary suspension of indefinite strikes previously scheduled to begin on October 28. The decision, made by the Strike Committee, follows the announcement of general elections for November 29, which alters the political landscape for negotiations with the Ministry of Health. The unions, including the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions, maintain their demands for regulated working hours, recognition of overtime for retirement purposes, and the creation of a specific Framework Statute for medical professionals. They warned that mobilizations will resume if a new government does not engage in effective negotiations.

Separately, the Andalusian Medical Union has reported incidents of violence against healthcare workers in Seville. In Alcalá de Guadaíra, a healthcare assistant was assaulted with a punch to the face. In San Juan de Aznalfarache, a man armed with blades pursued medical staff, forcing them to barricade themselves in an office despite the presence of National Police. The union highlighted the extreme risks faced by professionals during their duties.
