Spanish military units mark historical anniversaries

Historical milestones are being observed regarding two distinct units of the Spanish Army. The 1st Paratrooper Brigade 'Roger de Flor', based in Alcalá de Henares, traces its origins to its creation on October 17, 1953. The unit, named after the 14th-century Almogavar leader, conducted its first parachute jump in Murcia in February 1954. Its history includes combat and humanitarian missions in Sidi Ifni, the Sahara, and participation in NATO's Allied Mobile Force.

Separately, the 4th Banner 'Cristo de Lepanto' of the 2nd Tercio of the Spanish Legion is marking 105 years since its founding in 1921. Established during the Moroccan campaigns, the unit is based in Ceuta. It holds a unique distinction in the Spanish Army as the only unit with a company awarded the Laureate Cross of Saint Ferdinand, earned for heroic actions during the relief of the Monte Magán position.
