Spanish Minister Óscar Puente defends government intervention in Talgo

Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has defended the government's intervention in the future of the railway manufacturer Talgo. Puente stated that it was not reasonable to allow a strategic and symbolic company to fall under the indirect control of the Russian government.

He noted that a supposedly Hungarian takeover bid was planned by a company that went bankrupt shortly after the attempt, which he claims was a front for Russian capital. Puente emphasized that the situation is a matter of national security. He also highlighted the importance of protecting Talgo's specialized technical expertise and securing its jobs.

Additionally, Puente mentioned Talgo's international presence, noting that the company supplies high-speed trains for the Medina-Mecca route in Saudi Arabia. He stressed the urgent need for high-quality rolling stock to meet current transport demands.
