Spanish Minister Sira Rego visits Bornos to inspect childcare services

Spain’s Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, conducted an institutional visit to Bornos on October 23, 2026. During the visit, the Minister toured the Castillo-Palacio de los Ribera to view the municipality’s historical heritage and met with Mayor Hugo Palomares.

A primary focus of the visit was the El Lago municipal nursery school. Rego praised the facility as a positive example of prioritizing children's rights and highlighted the importance of municipalism in addressing social challenges. The Mayor noted that the local nursery has historically maintained affordable rates, such as 60 euros, to support working and seasonal labor families.

Rego emphasized the need to sustain public services and called for greater co-responsibility from regional authorities, specifically the Junta de Andalucía, regarding funding for care policies. She also mentioned that her office is working with the Ministry of Education to release further resources to support these efforts.
