Spanish Ministry defends nationality grant to Venezuelan businessmen
The Spanish Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, through the Subdirectorate General of Nationality and Civil Status, has defended the granting of Spanish nationality to Venezuelan businessmen Domingo Arnaldo and Guillermo Alfredo Amaro Chacón.
In a document sent to the General Information Commissariat, the agency stated that at the time the nationality was granted, the businessmen had no criminal or police records. This defense comes amid an investigation by Judge José Luis Calama of the Audiencia Nacional.
The investigation focuses on payments exceeding 1 million euros made by the company Inteligencia Prospectiva to firms linked to former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and his daughters, Alba and Laura Rodríguez Espinosa. Messages exchanged between Guillermo Amaro Chacón and Zapatero’s secretary, Gertrudis Alcázar, are reportedly part of the judicial summary.
