Spanish Ministry grants citizenship to Benahavís councillor Scott Marshall

The Spanish Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts has reversed its initial decision and granted Spanish nationality to Scott Marshall, a councillor for the People's Party (PP) in Benahavís.

Marshall, who holds a British passport but was born in Málaga and has resided in the province his entire life, had his original application rejected because he allegedly failed to demonstrate sufficient integration into Spanish society. The initial refusal cited a lack of specific certificates (CCSE and DELE) regarding Spanish language proficiency and sociocultural knowledge.

Following an administrative appeal, the Ministry reviewed new documentation regarding Marshall's academic background in Spain. The Ministry concluded that his completion of secondary and vocational education in the country sufficiently proves his integration and language skills. The granting of citizenship is subject to Marshall completing necessary civil registry formalities, including an oath of loyalty to the King and the Constitution, within 180 days.
