Spanish Ministry of Defense awards 258 million euro telecom contract

The Spanish Ministry of Defense has awarded a major framework agreement to modernize the telecommunications infrastructure for the Armed Forces. The project, known as the Integral Information Infrastructure for Defense (I3D), has an estimated total value of 258.4 million euros and an initial duration of three years.

The contract is divided into eight distinct lots covering various services, including mobile communications, satellite links, telemedicine, internet access, and technical support. Key companies awarded contracts include Telefónica, Vodafone, TRC, Zelenza, Telefónica-Sphera, and Hisdesat.

Specifically, the company TRC has been awarded lot 7, valued at 15.8 million euros, to provide secure and resilient videoconferencing services. This platform is designed to ensure secure audiovisual communications for military personnel and Ministry officials both within Spain and in international operational zones. The modernization aims to guarantee high-quality communications and ensure interoperability between the Spanish Armed Forces, NATO, and the European Union.
