Spain formalizes maintenance contract for strategic North African enclaves
The Spanish Ministry of Defense has formalized a contract with the Madrid-based company Hispamast to maintain telescopic masts located in the strategic enclaves of Alhucemas, the Chafarinas Islands, and Vélez de la Gomera.
The contract, valued at 37,416 euros, was awarded through a simplified open procedure where price was the sole evaluation criterion. Hispamast was the only bidder for the service. These enclaves, located off the coast of Morocco in the Alboran Sea, serve as Spanish sovereignty territories and host permanent military garrisons of the Spanish Army.
The maintenance of these communication masts follows a 2021 initiative to acquire antenna systems for the enclaves' communication centers, a move prompted by significant migratory events in the region.
