Spanish mother appeals to Emmanuel Macron over child abduction case

A woman from Olot, Spain, has appealed to French President Emmanuel Macron to intervene in an international child abduction case. She reports that in December 2024, her children were taken from Spain to France by their father, violating a Spanish court order for shared weekly custody.

Despite rulings from both Spanish and French judicial authorities, the children remain in France. A judge in Olot declared the transfer illicit in February 2025, and a court in Montpellier ordered the immediate return of the minors to their mother on January 30. However, the children were not returned as scheduled on July 6.

The impasse is attributed to the French prosecution's refusal to enforce the judicial ruling through police action, citing that the responsibility for communicating with the police lies with the prosecution rather than the judge. The mother, represented by attorney Cristina Díaz-Malnero, continues her efforts to recover her daughters.
