Spanish municipal administrations face scrutiny over public services and electoral compliance

In Alicante, the Juan XXIII neighborhood library remains closed despite government promises to reopen it. The political group Compromís has criticized Culture Councilor Nayma Beldjilali, noting that the city has seen its number of active municipal libraries drop from thirteen to eight due to staffing shortages. Other facilities, including those in Lo Morant and Panteón de Quijano, also face closures.

In Barcelona, the political group Junts has filed a complaint with the Electoral Board against Mayor Jaume Collboni’s administration. The complaint alleges a violation of institutional neutrality laws regarding the opening of the La Sagrera Municipal Sports Center. Junts claims the administration attempted to bypass electoral prohibitions on inaugurating public works by rebranding an official inauguration as an ‘open house’ event following the dissolution of Parliament.
