Spanish municipal pools shut temporarily after contamination incidents

In Jarandilla de la Vera, the town council ordered the closure of the Cruz de Vergara municipal swimming pool after fecal matter was found in the water. The authorities activated the sanitary protocol, undertaking cleaning, disinfection and testing before reopening, and called on users to respect hygiene rules.

In the nearby municipality of Bellreguard, its two public pools have been closed on several occasions this summer following similar hygiene breaches. Officials linked the latest cases to possible animal contamination rather than the rumored “brown viral challenge” and said they are evaluating the installation of surveillance cameras to deter future incidents.
