Spanish municipalities adopt AI and smart city technologies
Spanish municipalities are implementing advanced digital technologies to modernize public administration. Xàbia has secured €1.875 million in European Union funding through the FEDER 2021–2027 programme to launch an ambitious smart city project. This initiative will establish a Smart Office, a central digital hub that integrates data from IoT devices, sensors, and mobility systems to monitor traffic, environmental conditions, and coastal areas in real time. The project will utilize artificial intelligence to analyze data for predictive municipal planning.
In València, the city council is piloting Sigma-IT, an artificial intelligence solution developed by Foqum Analytics. Designed to optimize the management of municipal IT incidents, the system automates repetitive tasks and reduces response times. The project, part of the València Innovation Capital GovTech challenge, includes an intelligent self-service system to resolve frequent technical issues autonomously and uses AI to classify and prioritize incidents based on complexity.
