Spanish municipalities and professional bodies launch joint programs to prevent gender violence
The Ferrol City Council in Galicia approved a €4,000 grant to the local Bar Association to run a year‑long education and awareness program on gender equality, violence prevention, sexual offenses and online safety for students in municipal schools. Mayor José Manuel Rey Varela emphasized the need for preventative education to combat gender‑based violence among young people.
In the Valencian Community, the regional government signed a one‑year cooperation agreement with the General Council of Property Administrators. The pact aims to use administrators’ contact with homeowners to distribute informational material, detect early signs of domestic abuse and direct victims to public support services. The agreement was signed by Vice‑President Susana Camarero and involved the Commissioner for the Fight against Violence against Women, reinforcing a network of professional and public entities to address gender‑based violence in residential settings.
