Spanish Municipalities Approve and Face Criticism Over Tourism Budgets
The Municipal Tourism Board of Castelló approved its 2027 budget of €1.541 million, a 5% rise over the previous year. President Arantxa Miralles said the approved budget allows the board to plan ahead, diversify the tourism offer and continue promoting sports, gastronomic and cultural tourism.
In Tortosa, the opposition party Junts per Tortosa denounced a 66% increase in the budget for the annual Festa del Renaixement, raising the allocation to €423,000 from around €255,000 in prior editions. Party spokesperson Meritxell Roigé argued the rise is unjustified given a drop in visitor numbers and questioned the use of €150,000 from the Llei de Barris and other contracts tied to the event.
