Spanish municipalities boost local commerce and beach recycling with new campaigns

The municipality of San Bartolomé on Lanzarote concluded its "Verano Loco 2026" campaign, a summer initiative aimed at encouraging residents to shop locally. The program involved 62 participating businesses, attracted 272 registered shoppers and generated more than €35,600 in sales for local stores. Eight €100 vouchers were awarded to winners to spend at participating merchants, reinforcing the goal of supporting the town’s commercial fabric.

In Cádiz, the city council and the environmental group Cada Lata Cuenta launched the seventh edition of the "Tu Lata al Amarillo" campaign. Environmental educators will patrol the city’s beaches throughout August, collecting aluminum cans and urging beachgoers to use the yellow recycling bins. The effort is part of a national drive also present in other coastal cities and seeks to promote responsible tourism and reduce waste.

Both initiatives reflect local authorities’ focus on stimulating economic activity and fostering sustainable practices within their communities.
