Spanish municipalities face criticism over environmental management

In Aragón, the citizen platform "Salvemos los Pinares de Venecia" lodged formal objections to Microsoft’s new data‑center project at Puerto Venecia. The group highlighted a 23‑day public comment period opened in August, alleged opacity in the environmental assessment, concerns about asbestos‑contaminated waste on the site, and ongoing legal challenges by local residents against the project.

Both cases illustrate growing local opposition in Spain to perceived shortcomings in environmental oversight by municipal authorities and large corporations.
