Spanish municipalities honor local figures with naming honors
The Bornos City Council has unanimously approved renaming the municipal pavilion after Felipe Barcia Sánchez. The late Barcia Sánchez was a prominent figure in local sports, particularly known for his long-standing commitment as a football coach for multiple generations of youth in the municipality.
In the same session, Bornos initiated proceedings to posthumously name José Antonio González Castilla as a Favorite Son of the town. González Castilla was a public school teacher and researcher recognized for his contributions to local history, heritage, and natural sciences.
In Toledo, the Buenavista Municipal Library has been named in honor of historian, academic, and librarian Antonio Casado Poyales, who passed away in August 2025. The naming ceremony, held on Library Day, included family, friends, and cultural representatives.
As part of the tribute, the Casado Poyales family donated a personal collection of approximately 500 books to the city. A selection of these works, covering topics from Toledo history to classic literature and science fiction, will be displayed in a dedicated space within the library.
