Spanish municipalities honor rural women for community contributions

Local governments in Spain have held ceremonies to recognize the achievements and social contributions of women in rural communities.

In Ronda, the City Council honored seven women from various districts, including La Cimada, Fuente la Higuera, La Indiana, Los Villalones, Puerto Saúco, Los Prados, and Llano de la Cruz. The awards, presented by Mayor Mari Paz Fernández, celebrated their life histories and dedication to their respective communities.

In Torrox, two women were recognized during the 2026 Mujer Rural de la Axarquia awards. Local police officer María Jesús Quiñones Pastrana was honored for her work in public safety and road safety education, while Gloria Martin Martin was celebrated for her involvement in local cultural groups, including theater and traditional music, to preserve regional traditions.
