Spanish municipalities implement forest fire prevention measures
Local authorities in Spain have launched forest fire prevention measures to protect residential areas. In Alzira, the City Council has begun creating a 30-meter wide vegetation discontinuity strip around the Sant Bernat and El Xavegó urbanizations. This work aims to act as a firebreak to hinder flame propagation and assist firefighting teams. The project is expected to last between two and three months.
In Sant Pere de Ribes, the City Council has started maintenance on the perimeter strip of the Els Vinyals urbanization in collaboration with the Forest Defense Group (ADF). These preventative actions include pruning lower tree branches, clearing undergrowth, and removing fallen trees to reduce combustible material. This initiative is part of a continuous municipal plan to improve the protection of residential nuclei against potential forest fires.
