Spanish municipalities implement new cleaning and waste management technologies
The government of Melilla is advancing its roadmap to modernize city cleaning and waste collection services. The local executive has launched a tender for a contract valued at 1.22 million euros to acquire 15 new vehicles and seven auxiliary pieces of equipment. This initiative follows the recent addition of five new dump trucks. According to Environment Counselor Daniel Ventura, the plan aims to improve working conditions for municipal staff and enhance the material resources available for maintaining the city, specifically targeting the Parks and Gardens Service for the maintenance of green zones and trees.
In the Region of Murcia, the City Council of Mula has partnered with MOVISAT to modernize its street cleaning management. By implementing the EcoSAT platform and IoT sensors, the municipality aims to monitor service performance in real time, verify machinery operations, and optimize routes to reduce costs and environmental impact. This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Region of Murcia through the SmartRegion initiative, which promotes digital transformation and interoperability between smart city systems.
