Spanish municipalities implement new urban surveillance and service regulations

Municipalities in Spain are implementing new measures to improve urban management and public services.

The Vélez-Málaga City Council is expanding its video surveillance network to monitor traffic flow and combat illegal waste dumping. The expansion includes ten cameras dedicated to mobility to help local police manage congestion and incidents in key urban areas, and four cameras focused on environmental protection near waste containers. The environmental surveillance will be supplemented by ten connected sensors.

In Huelva, the City Council is introducing a strict penalty system for the future street cleaning service provider. To ensure better maintenance, the new contract includes fines of up to 1,000 euros per week if waste accumulates near containers for more than seven days. Other penalties include fines for damaged equipment, failure to replace broken vehicles, and disrespectful behavior by staff. The contract also mandates the removal of existing underground containers, with daily fines for delays in their removal.
