Spanish municipalities implement new waste management fees and recycling models

Municipalities in Spain are implementing new waste management fee structures and recycling strategies. In Almuñécar, a new ordinance has introduced specific annual fees for waste collection, transport, and treatment. For residential properties, rates range from 57.52 euros for homes under 60 square meters to 246.50 euros for those exceeding 350 square meters. Commercial entities face higher costs, with bars and restaurants potentially paying up to 6,573.25 euros depending on their size.

In the O Salnés region, the Mancomunidade do Salnés is exploring ways to reduce costs through massive bio-waste recycling. Estimates suggest that widespread composting could lower the cost of treating bio-waste to between 7 and 27 euros per inhabitant annually, significantly lower than current municipal bills which can reach approximately 100 euros. The region is expanding its 'Mestre composteiro' service to include more municipalities like Meis, Cambados, Meaño, Sanxenxo, and O Grove to improve economic and environmental efficiency.
