Santa Pola launches local energy community to reduce electricity bills

The Santa Pola City Council has launched its Local Energy Community (CEL), a collective self-consumption project designed to provide renewable electricity to local residents and businesses. Developed with technical and legal advice from Grupo Enercoop, the initiative utilizes two municipal photovoltaic installations located at the CEIP Virgen de Loreto and the José Antonio Alemañ Sports Center.

Each installation has a capacity of 100 kW, providing a combined total of 200 kW. The project is expected to generate more than 300,000 kWh annually, which could cover up to 50% of the energy demand for approximately 200 participating families and businesses.

Participation in the community is free and does not require participants to install solar panels on their own properties, make an initial investment, or change their current electricity provider. The project aims to facilitate the energy transition and reduce costs for the municipality's citizens through shared renewable resources.
