Spanish municipalities in Getxo and Elche reject ETA condemnation motions

The Getxo City Council rejected a motion condemning aggression against Spanish football fans during the World Cup. The proposal, put forward by the People's Party (PP), was voted down by the 15 councillors of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) and EH Bildu, who hold an absolute majority, while the three Socialists' Party of the Basque Country (PSE-EE) members abstained. The PP was the only party to support the motion.

In the Elche City Council, a motion to condemn ETA terrorism and recognize its victims, introduced by Vox, also faced opposition. Compromís voted against the motion and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) abstained, allowing the motion to pass thanks to the votes of the PP and Vox. Both incidents highlight the refusal of nationalist parties in the Basque Country and Valencia to endorse formal condemnations of ETA-related violence or fan assaults.
