Spanish municipalities launch aid programs for school supplies and health expenses

The municipality of Narón (Galicia) announced that from 1 July it will accept applications for emergency aid to cover school materials and cafeteria fees for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Applications can be submitted until 30 April 2027 and are aimed at low‑income families with children in any level of compulsory education. The amount granted will depend on household income, and the programme was highlighted by Education Councilor Olga Ameneiro as a measure to ensure equal educational opportunities.

The Cabildo of La Gomera (Canary Islands) opened its call for health and extraordinary aid, which will remain active until 28 July. The fund totals €2.5 million and supports expenses not covered by the Spanish Social Security system, such as medical consultations, surgeries, diagnostic tests, speech therapy, physiotherapy, orthopaedic material, dental treatment and related prescriptions. It also covers extraordinary costs, including transport for patients referred to mainland hospitals and home‑adaptation works for persons with disabilities. President Casimiro Curbelo and Social‑Policy Councilor Rosa Elena García emphasized the programme’s role in relieving family finances and adapting to real needs.
