Spanish municipalities launch new autism support initiatives
Municipalities in Spain are implementing new social resources to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
In San Fernando, the City Council has ceded a 154-square-meter space to Autismo Cádiz to establish a new Day Center. The local government will fully fund the renovation of the facility, with an investment exceeding 300,000 euros. This center, located in the Constitución area, aims to provide specialized services closer to where families reside, thereby reducing travel time and increasing support availability.
In Salamanca, the City Council and the Ariadna Association have introduced 'El Lazarillo II', a specialized 105-square-meter home designed for four children with autism in vulnerable situations. Part of the 'Viviendas con Sentido' project, this initiative promotes independence and social inclusion in an adapted environment. The project allows the children to transition from generalist centers to a specialized home where they can engage in age-appropriate activities and attend mainstream schooling.
