Spanish municipalities launch road safety and mobility initiatives

Municipalities in Spain are launching initiatives to promote road safety and sustainable mobility. In Cartagena, the City Council has started its 2026-2027 Road Safety Education course. Following a previous year that reached over 8,200 participants, the new program will focus heavily on Personal Mobility Vehicles (VMP), such as electric scooters, to prepare for upcoming traffic regulation changes. The curriculum includes helmet use, age limits, pedestrian behavior, and the prevention of mobile phone distractions.

Simultaneously, Santa Marta de Tormes is participating in European Mobility Week from September 16 to 22. Under the theme ‘Mobility for all people,’ the local government has organized activities including healthy walks and educational circuits for children. The program aims to encourage healthier, safer, and more environmentally friendly travel habits among residents, utilizing tools such as rollover simulators and alcohol-impaired driving goggles to raise awareness.
